Veruschka Zarate teaches at Isarquiltstudio

Veruschka says:

🇩🇪 I am super excited to visit Germany! 🇩🇪

I am thrilled to be at @isarquiltstudio in Bavaria from November 13–15, 2026 – for a very special workshop and the premiere of my newest quilt design “Storybook Wunderland”.

“Storybook Wunderland” is the third design in my new landscape series Pieced & Placed: A Passport to Joy – a collection inspired by the special places I travel to and the wonderful quilt communities I get to know worldwide.

In this series, I combine two of my favorite techniques: the architectural precision of Foundation Paper Piecing and the organic beauty of appliqué. Together, they allow me to capture not only landmarks, but also the atmosphere, culture, and details of a place.

For Bavaria, I wanted to create a quilt that felt like stepping into a storybook. The design celebrates many of the region’s most beautiful treasures – including the majestic Alps, the winding Isar River, traditional folk art, the mysterious Black Forest, and the craftsmanship of woodworking that gave rise to the world-famous cuckoo clock. Scattered across the landscape are edelweiss, cornflowers, and bellflowers, inspired by the blooms of the German mountain regions.

And of course, towering above it all is the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle.

As a lifelong Disney fan, this part feels especially magical to me. It is widely believed that Neuschwanstein served as the inspiration for the iconic Disney castle – and it is even part of the SOARIN’ attraction at Disney California Adventure. I have "flown over" this castle countless times – and now, thanks to Kerstin, I finally get to see it with my own eyes this November! ❤️🎉

Optional kits will be available for the workshop! If you are interested, please send Kerstin a short email.

This kit will be different from anything I have offered before. In addition to solid fabrics as a base, I will use a carefully curated mix of batiks, grunge fabrics, and textured solids to create more depth and realism. I am also working with a more natural, realistic color palette than usual – and I am very excited to share this new creative direction with you.
